Who We Are
Welcome to the research blog from IQS Research. We are a market research firm based in Louisville, KY, and we work to deliver a clear understanding of your market, your customers, and your employees. While we call ourselves “market researchers,” we are first and foremost researchers (without the market)! We design and conduct studies in just about any area you can think of (from education, to medical, to customer satisfaction, to employee engagement, and beyond).
And because we are researchers, we by definition love doing research! We don’t just say that – in fact, we love it so much that we use this blog to satisfy our need to talk about research. This blog is aimed at answering common questions about research in a way you can understand. We leave the pretense at the office, and write to share our respect and admiration for numbers and everything else that goes into good, sound research, and how research fits into your everyday life. Find out more about us at www.iqsresearch.com.
This blog is a conglomoration of three researchers, who offer three unique perspectives on the research process:
Shawn Herbig – President:
Shawn is the President and founder of IQS Research – though we just call him head data geek. He has been honored with multiple awards including Business First’s 40 Under 40 Award (2004), the Entrepeneur Award from the Technology Enterprises Network (2007), and the Medistar Innovation Award (2009). Shawn also serves as Board Chairman at Zoom Group, a nonprofit organziation that helps adults with developmental disabilities experience a sense of belonging in their community.
Prior to starting IQS Research, Shawn worked as the Lead Quality Analyst on the high profile Explorer vehicle line for Ford Motor Company.
Shawn has been cited and published in local and national publications such as Business First, The Courier-Journal, American Medical News, Kentucky Medical News, Practice Manager Magazine, Kentucky Medical Journal, Kansas City Business Journal, Automotive News, Edmunds.com, and others.

Joshua Holt – Research Analyst:
Josh has a rich history in data analysis, focusing on social research during his academic tenure at the University of Louisville. Earning his B.A. in Sociology, he went on to Masters work in Sociology with a concentration in statistics, education, and linguistics. While at the university, Josh taught social statistics and social problems, and served as research analyst.
Josh came to IQS in 2009, where he serves as head research analyst. He likes to bore people with his “statistics talk,” even though he thinks people find it interesting. While at IQS, he has worked on numerous projects for organizations across the region, including the Center for Disease Control, the University of Louisville, the Center for Non-Profit Excellence, Business Leaders for Education, and Jefferson County Public Schools. He has been published in Business First, Teaching Sociology, and the American Journal of Infection Control.

Ryan Gore – Data Collections Coordinator:
Ryan Gore is the Data Collections Coordinator for IQS Research where he has worked since 2011. As the Data Collections Coordinator, Ryan extends the disciplined research process in place at IQS Research by using scientific processes to ensure that data is collected in a manner that is accurate, reliable and consistent whether its dozens, hundreds or thousands of interviews. While adhering to these scientific principles Ryan also works to ensure that respondents feel comfortable in the research process and confident their voice will be heard.
His interest in research began during his academic tenure at Bellarmine University where he received his Bachelors of Arts in Political Science and Sociology. While there, his research focused on the political attitudes of university students, and his work has been presented within academic forums. Professionally, Ryan comes from a background of human relations, working in college recruitment and enrollment management, as well as sales and customer service.
